We don't speak Italian but we do speak Moschino

"I don't speak Italian but I do speak Moschino"

MOSCHINO FALL/WINTER 2014 by Jeremy Scott

Jeremy Scott’s collection for Moschino was indeed our guilty pleasure from Milan Fashion Week. Inspiration for this fall/winter’14 collection was deeply rooted in American pop culture and cartoons. Designs were structured for "eye feasting," for example takeaway-inspired sweatshirts, sponge-bob square pants ensembles (A LOT! WHICH WE LOVE LOVE LOVE) and lots of washed-out denim.

If you clearly observe the collection, you would say, it wouldn't work, but somehow it does, and one can only imagine all the edgy chicks biting at this fashion line...

 History

Franco Moschino is the founder of Moschino. He is the Italian designer known for recruiting humor and ridicule to fashion. Sadly, he died on September 18, 1994 in a country house he had rented in Annone, Italy, outside Milan. He was 44. Cause of death was cardiac arrest due to complications from an abdominal tumor. His last show was in October 1993, which was a 10-year exhibition that ended with a stage filled with men, women and children dressed in white wearing AIDS ribbons. Franco Moschino was an inspirational designer, delighting in ridiculing the fashion of 1980's with wit, colourful logos and slogans, lively and provocative designs which pushed the boundaries of fashion establishment with a funny edge. “He put humor into fashion, but at a high-quality level," said Kalman Ruttenstein, the vice president for fashion direction at Bloomingdale's. The Moschino style was established in just a few years and, today it is easily recognized in the world over...

Jeremy Scott is considered fashion’s most evolved enthusiast of junk culture. He loves nothing more than pushing the conventional rules of fashion with bright hints of trash.Scott paraded his fall/winter’14 collection based on a “mutant hybrid of Ronald McDonald and Coco Chanel,” all this in the name of the late, great Franco Moschino. There is a visible difference in the stylistic approach between Scott’s modification of the Moschino heritage and Franco’s original master-piece.
